Vintage 5-Piece Swing Band

Slip back in time to old New Orleans with Miss Myra and The Moonshiners. Myra and the 5-piece swing band will stomp through favorite Dixieland tunes, sashay with old pops standards, swing with vintage jazz and maybe fly with a bit of Gypsy jazz.

Miss Myra and The Moonshiners are a formidable 5-piece swing band bringing a fresh female-driven perspective playing a broad repertoire of classic tunes from the ‘20s and ‘30s and inspired originals. Highlighting favorites like Sweet Georgia Brown, Five Foot Two/Eyes of Blue, and When the Saints Go Marching In, Miss Myra and The Moonshiners provide powerful vocals, a smoking horn section, and sweet rhythm, they are guaranteed to lift spirits and take you back to simpler times.

Miss Myra

Miss Myra is a threat on every level. Her golden voice will bring you from rock bottom to ecstasy and back while her driving guitar rhythm holds the Moonshiners together. Her style of hard-hitting swing guitar is reminiscent of Django Reinhardt. She also draws influence from legendary blues guitarists such as Leadbelly and Blind Boy Fuller. If you let her near a piano, you'll hear virtuosity from ragtime to Lizst. In addition to her musical talent, she is known for lighting up the dance floor with traditional American jazz dances such as lindy hop, charleston and blues.

Nathan Berry - Brass and Vocals

Nathan brings an infectious enthusiasm to the stage, singing harmonies and leading the horn section with swinging cornet melodies and New Orleans tailgate trombone. He also performs regularly with the Afro-Cuban group Malamanya.

Sam Skavnak – Reeds

A virtuosic devotee of traditional jazz, "Silky" Sam rounds out the Moonshiner's horns with his ever tasty clarinet and bari sax stylings. Sam is a pillar of the local scene, often playing with Patty and The Buttons and many others.

Beautiful horns, delicious vintage jazz and ragtime music and excellent vocals

-–Richard Wagenaar, The Next Gig

Matt Blake- Upright Bass

Heavily influenced by traditional jazz and blues, Matt has played with such notable groups as Gentlemen's Anti-Temperance League, and Davina and the Vagabonds.

Beth Varela – Drums

Beth studied at Berklee College of Music and completes the band's swinging rhythm section. She also plays regularly with Jiselle McCollam Jazz Cult, Somerville Productions, and Katia Cardenas.
