Day of the Dead/Dia de los Muertos Concert
Chicago's premier Mexican folk music band since 1994 with a GRAMMY ® and a Latin GRAMMY ® nomination under their belt. They are winners of the Chicago Music Awards for Best Mexican Band two years in a row in 2015 and 2016. The Chicago Tribune says "[They] move seamlessly between styles and instruments playing with rock'n'roll energy without sacrificing cultural authenticity."
The group formed in 1994 to keep the tradition of Mexican ‘son’ alive in its many regional forms. As performers and recording artists, the ensemble has developed and popularized many original arrangements of Mexican traditional tunes through touring the United States and internationally, including such prestigious venues as the Getty Museum in Los Angeles and Carnegie Hall in New York. They have released six albums, including the GRAMMY ® nominated Esta Tierra Es Tuya (This Land is Your Land).
The sextet is presently formed by multi-instrumentalists and singers: Juan Díes, Lorena Iniguez, Zacbe Pichardo, Gonzalo Cordova, Eric Hones, and Erendira Izguerra.
"Sones de Mexico Ensemble, a little independent Chicago folk group, earned a Latin Grammy nomination for best folk album and, astonishingly, a 2008 Grammy nomination for Best Mexican Regional Album, against mega-popular starts like Pepe Aguilar."
