Chicago Bassoon Quartet
The Chicago Bassoon Quartet was founded by Sue Nigro in Chicago and their members are actively involved in commissioning and premiering pieces by composers currently writing works for small ensembles. Their music library has over 130 selections - in a variety of forms, styles, and arrangements - which produces programs which are eclectic, dynamic, and memorable.
The Chicago Bassoon Quartet is comprised of Lynette Pralle, Dianne Ryan, Elizabeth Heller, and Sue Nigro - who also serves as contrabassoonist. The CBQ was originally founded in the 1980s and, after a hiatus of several years, made its first "come-back" appearance on May 14, 2014 in the Sounds of the South Loop concert series at the 2nd Presbyterian Church of Chicago.
“Susan Nigro is a veritable Paganini of the contrabassoon...”
-– Fanfare Magazine
This successful enterprise was quickly followed up with a performance in October, 2014 at the 1st Annual Chicago Double Reed Festival, where the CBQ was the featured ensemble. Subsequent appearances have taken place at: Harper College (on two separate occasions), York High School, Elmhurst College, Chicago Botanic Garden, Plymouth Place, and the Saint John Brebeuf Church in Niles IL.
